A few years back, I made the decision to become one of those people that knows things about movies. This venture has led me to an appreciation for what I believe is the most important craft of our time.
A bit about me: I’m a 20 year old guy trying to snag a Computer Science degree from some mediocre United States university. When I’m not watching movies, I do some acting, writing, improv comedy, programming, and I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
I will draw my viewing from the book 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die. There seems to be considerable merit to the list as it was compiled by various film scholars, and my inspiration for this project stems from the tales of numerous others who have accomplished the same feat. There will be no set schedule or viewing order. If I have already seen something from the list, I’ll watch it again before I write the review. They do update the list every year with new releases, tossing out a few existing entries, and my ultimate goal is to have an up-to-date completion of the book, so we’re probably looking at more than 1001 films once it’s all said and done. I plan to hold myself to at least one film a week with plans to move along a bit quicker as time permits. The plan for each review is a rundown of my thoughts on the film with some analysis.
For those interested, a checkable version of the list can be found here.
My goals through this process are to understand what makes great film, to evaluate the important works in the history of cinema, and just to watch some cool movies. I appreciate any support I may gain along the way.
